Home Care Information
1. The impact of colour
Colours will appear darker/brighter and more sharply defined immediately following the procedure.
Colours will begin to lighten and soften in three to fourteen days, but the final colour result cannot be seen until six weeks.
After six weeks, is the time to see the true colour and this is when your adjustment can be done. Please note: we are unable to predict the longevity of colour retention in the skin.
2. Care Bag
A care bag will be given to you following the procedure, which contains cotton swabs and tips and a specially formulated balm to hydrate and sooth, promote elasticity, rejuvenate skin and keep the treated area moist during the healing period, which helps to retain colour.
3. Beware of laser
If you are having laser resurfacing or laser hair removal please inform the laser operator of your cosmetic tattoo procedures. If you do not and they touch the tattoo with the laser beam, it could darken and turn grey or black.
4. Post procedure Cleanliness
Bath or shower as normal. No soap or cleansers should be used on the treated area for one day. This could be detrimental to the bonding process that must take place for the pigment to become stabilised in the Dermis.
Clean area with warm running water using a clean cloth or cotton swab, pat dry, apply a thin smear of Aftercare Balm with cotton tip.
The area where the tattoo has been applied MUST BE KEPT MOIST for successful healing, to avoid scabbing, which causes the loss of colour.
Only a thin smear of balm is necessary. Skin takes 28 days to repair. Using the Aftercare Balm will nourish and help repair the skin and protect it from infections.
Do not apply make-up on the tattoo for at least two days. Do not pick at any scaling that may form on the tattooed area, let the scales fall off naturally, picking could cause scarring.
5. Protecting your tattoo
When going out into the sun apply block out or products containing a block out over your treated area. Exposure to the sun over time will cause fading and colour change. Cover the tattoo with Vaseline when swimming in salt or chlorinated water, to avoid a bleaching effect. Chemicals of any kind could interfere with the healing and the colour. Glycolic Acid and face peel products must be kept completely away from the tattoo as reports say it has a tendency to lighten the colour with constant use.
6. The eyebrows
Immediately after the procedure you will need to constantly wipe the eyebrows for approximately one hour.
Check them constantly in a mirror. They will weep a clear fluid (this is normal) wipe them firmly to remove the fluid otherwise a scab will occur. Keep a fine smear of Aftercare Balm applied. There is no pain after the procedure however some people notice tightness across the forehead or a slight swelling may occur lasting around twenty-four hours. A cold compresses or ice packs will help bring the swelling down, if necessary.
It is important to understand that the procedure will look so much darker than you anticipated for at least the next week. On some occasions the colour seems to darken over the first 24 hours, this is normal and a part of the skins healing process. It is not unusual to feel concerned that the colour has taken too strongly. Please understand that the colour will lighten and the difference will become noticeable within a week.
Note: the longevity of light colours is substantially less than that of stronger darker pigments. A retouch of colour may be required more frequently if you choose a lighter colour for eyebrow creations.
7. The Lip line
Following the procedure you must continue to wipe the new lip treatment firmly for at least one hour, sometimes longer, to remove the clear fluid.
Leaving this to dry will cause scabbing. Should you have elected for a Dental Block you will notice that once the injection has worn off, swelling is minimal. Use cold compresses if necessary. There is no after pain, only dryness and tightness on the lip edges. Keep the area moist with Aftercare Balm
If you are prone to cold sores alternate the Aftercare Cream with Cold sore Cream.
After two weeks you will find the colour will be lighter. After six weeks the colour will show through. Lipstick can be worn immediately after treatment.
8. Full lip colour or lip blend
These two treatments require substantial maintenance. It is important to understand that the healing process may take up to four weeks.
Throughout this time the colour on the lip will undergo many changes and at some points seem as though it has completely faded and you will think you have achieved no result. Please be Patient. Due to the healing process the colour will take on a new strength as you approach the six to eight week mark. It is at that time we are able to assess the result. It is possible that due to the vascularity of the area we may need to implant more colour at the time of your adjustment appointment. Please be conscious when selecting your lip procedure colour that you take into account that the final result will always be more muted than the equivalent lipstick colour, as the colour is under the skin and not on top. What seems extremely bright on the day of treatment will be at least 50% softer by the final healing stage.
Swelling is very obvious and subsides over the next 24 to 48 hours, with some people it can last a little longer depending how full the lips are to begin with. The more full they naturally are, the more they will swell. This is individual.
A cold ice compress will help to reduce the swelling. Lips will be tender and very dry. It is vital that you keep them moist with Aftercare Balm and Cold sore Cream (if you suffer with cold sores).
As skin takes up to 28 days to heal you may find that your lip will have a dry flaky feel about them post procedure, this is normal. The simple fact of foods and drink passing the lip area makes the lip require constant care. Please ensure it is maintained with swabs and Aftercare Balm
Clients with a history of cold sores and mouth ulcers may suffer breakout two to three days after the full lip procedure. If so, treat as usual or see your pharmacist.
After three to seven days, the dry skin should flake off the lips, use creams for one month to repair and condition lips.
As you now realise the full lip colour or the lip line and blend procedures are the most difficult and lengthy procedures to perform.
Your free adjustment is only for the lip line shape only! As mentioned in the treatment information the full lip colour or blend procedures can be a process of subsequent visits in order to achieve an overall colour result. Usually it is complete in one treatment.
9. The Eyeliner
Swelling differs with each person, with most people; the after treatment can look like you have been crying. Occasionally some clients develop slight bruising of the lid area; often this is determined by the extent of the thickness of the Eyeliner procedure. Whilst Puffiness should last a maximum of twenty-four hours the tenderness of the lid area may last a few days. Cold compresses will help reduce the swelling. Keep the area moist with a very SMALL amount of Aftercare Balm twice a day for one week. Apply with cotton tip; there is hardly any noticeable healing.
